American Leather

American Leather is a founding member of the Sustainable Furniture Council, a non-profit organization created to promote sustainable practices in the furniture industry. Here are other key ways American Leather works everyday to make their products and their factory more environmentally friendly.

Frames

  • All wood used in American Leather furniture is harvested from sustainable forests.
  • American Leather recycles over two million pounds of leftover wood.
  • American Leather also uses recycled and scrap hardwood using an innovative technology to repurpose the wood. They recycle their wood but do not use recycled wood for frames.
  • American Leather's glues are chemical-free, water-based binders. Their water-based glue doesn't contain or release volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Leather

  • All leather is dyed using water-based solvents and pigments.

Cushions

  • American Leather's cushioning includes soy-based foam, which is fully recyclable and available in a wide assortment of firmness and densities.
  • To help prevent ozone layer damage, they use high-density and high-resiliency foam that's free of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).

Factory

  • American Leather's factory conserves energy with automatic light shut-offs. Employees are encouraged to recycle and to use non-disposable water cups and coffee cups instead of Styrofoam or paper products.
  • American Leather furniture is manufactured in Dallas, Texas. Since none of their products travel across an ocean, they can arrive faster and with a smaller carbon footprint than imported goods.
